October UFO is Finished!

I am proud to announce that my October UFO is finished! This is one that I worked really hard to finish and it even has the label sewn on the back!

This was a mystery quilt that Judy Laquidara at Patchwork Times offered in June 2010. It was a fun quilt to sew and I think the instructions are still available on line - click here if you want to download them.
Thanks again to Judy for this great pattern, and for hosting the UFO challenge that has worked out so well for me this year!

I am pleased with how my first attempt at baptist fan quilting turned out and my plan went fairly well. One row of fans went the wrong direction, which helped me to figure out that I have to start quilting at the same side for each row, even when I turned the whole quilt around at the mid point. I figure that I'm probably the only one that would notice the one wrong row, so I just kept going!
My quilt finished at 65" x 89" and I just had to take a photo of it outside to show the beautiful golden leaves outside my window!
10 months passed and 9 UFO's done...can I finish 3 more quilts in the next 2 months to meet my goal?!?
To see the other completed UFO's, hop over to Patchwork Times.

Kathy, you've done so well on your UFOs this year--I'm jealous! The mystery quilt was a pattern that was so fun to see come together and yours looks just wonderful all finished. I hope you like it as much as I do!

Oh Yes you CAN! And I will be cheering you on as I try to catch up. Gotta use more fabric before December 31st and finishing my UFO's uses the most.

the quilting is perfect for that quilt-it looks terrific! I think we're in the same boat-I have 3 more quilts on my list to quilt for 2011. I'm not sure if I'm going to make it though-I'm gonna try... But even if I don't, this has been a super productive 'get it done' year already.

It's a very pretty quilt! You must be thrilled that you finished it. I am always surprised by how much I still like my old UFO projects once they are done!

Congrats on the finish! Even if you don't get another one done this year, 10 UFOs completed in one year is quit an accomplishment. Very pretty quilt, I like the brown, pink and blue.

So pretty! And such a nice job on the quilting. Really, you should have arm strain from patting yourself on the back! Go ahead - do it :D

It is a very pretty pattern, but I am so amazed at your quilting, that is all I can see. Those Baptist fans were quilted free motion? Impressive! You did a great job.

Your quilt is just stunning. I love it!! I am very impressed with your Baptist Fan quilting - it is one of my favourite quilting designs. I like this quilt so much I think I will make it in pink/brown for my niece.

What a pretty quilt. Nice color choices! And way to go on the fans. You're right--no one will notice the guffaw except you. :)

I love your color choices. I love Judy's stuff, but sometimes she gets a little bold with the colors (funny that I'm saying that sitting here wearing a lime green hoodie over a hot pink t-shirt...) and I really love how your colors have toned it down. Darn it, I'm gonna start sending Judy nasty notes because this UFO challenge was supposed to help us finish stuff up, but instead I've got yet another quilt to add to the list I want to make! The quilting is great, too!

OH - I would sooo love to hear more about the original plan of doing the baptist fans and what you found as they were actually being quilted. I wish I had seen your posting on baptist fans 3 days ago....I wanted to try them on a scrappy quilt I finished - but kept looking online for any tips/tricks when doing it on a regular home domestic machine - and how to keep moving from one fan to the next. Would love to hear any and all advice/tips/etc. I will have to wait to try this on another quilt - since I now have spirals on the scrappy quilt. THank you in advance...your quilt looks great1

Congrats on your great quilt finish! Looks great and congrats on the quilting and keeping going despite the direction 'hiccup'. You're right ... you're probably the only one who will ever notice :)

Oh Kathy! It's beautiful.

And I'm wondering....how on EARTH do you have leaves left yet? You're further north than us! All of our leaves were gone 2nd week in October....
